Since 1989, the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) has provided guidelines to establish a foundation for access device management. With Access Device Standards of Practice for Oncology Nursing, ONS has identified practice standards, developed from a synthesis of evidence, critical review, and analysis of aspects of access device management for which nursing is accountable. Access Device Standards of Practice for Oncology Nursing reviews the controversies in access device care, explores the range of devices currently available, details the advantages and disadvantages of each device to ensure optimal selection based on patient needs, and discusses the key legal ramifications concerning access devices and their management. This titles should be bundled with Core Curriculum for Infusion Nursing.
With a steadily growing number of patients in the United States experiencing multiple chronic illnesses, palliative care should be integrated into the management of chronic conditions promoting a comprehensive approach to effective symptom management – boosting physical function and improved quality of life. This evolutionary change was prompted by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in 2010, which expanded the discussion on patient access and requirements in the palliative care setting. Integration of Palliative Care in Chronic Conditions: An Interdisciplinary Approach will equip multidisciplinary teams with the resources necessary to provide patients and their families with the best possible care and management of multiple chronic conditions.
